Battelle reports that Google Desktop Search has launched and he provides insights into the implications to Microsoft. To summarize:
1. Developers can allow the data in their applications to be indexed by desktop search, thus allowing users to find songs, documents, images, or whatever else is on their machines.
2. Developers can access Google's index directly in their applications. Google News results in your RSS reader, Google Images results in Photoshop, Company news in Quicken, etc.
